It is the most important district of Bakırçay basin in terms of agricultural activities, industry, trade, history and tourism. Bergama, which has monumental structures from the Ionian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods,[2] is considered one of the two representatives of cultural tourism in Izmir together with Selçuk district.[2] The ancient city of Pergamon, located in the center of the district, is important as the cultural, scientific and artistic center of the Hellenistic period.
