Isparta is the central district of Isparta province. The city is known for its local hand-woven carpets and rose cultivation.

The history of settlement in and around Isparta dates back to the Paleolithic period. The Luwian and Arzava communities settled in the Pisidia region, where Isparta is one of the important settlements, in the 2000s BC. Afterwards, Phrygians, Lydians, Persians and Macedonians dominated the region since 1200 BC. With the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, it came under the rule of Seleukos, the Kingdom of Pergamon and later Rome. Isparta, which showed an important development during the Roman Empire, became an important bishopric and commercial center. With the division of the Roman Empire, the region, which was in the Eastern Roman and later Byzantine territories, joined the Anatolian Seljuk State in 1204. It joined the Hamitoğulları Principality in 1300 and the Ottoman lands after 1391. II. It was definitely under Ottoman rule during the reign of Murad II. It became one of the important markets in southwest Anatolia in the 16th century.

The settlement history of the region begins with the Paleolithic period. As a result of the examinations made in 1944 during the period of Şevket Aziz Kansu, Kapıini Cave, located in the middle of the Bozanönü Plain, yields upper paleolithic artifacts. Near Gümüşgün (Baladız) in Keçiborlu, Prof. During the excavations made by Louis, flintstones called "Microlite" belonging to the Mesolithic Age were found.

The third period of the prehistoric era was the neolithic era. The finds in Yeniköy (Ş. Karaağaç) Mound from this period confirm this. Cube tombs found in Toprak Tol Mound and Köşktepe and other finds show that the settlement in Isparta also existed in the Chalcolithic period. Post-Chalcolithic Bronze Cultures can be observed quite widely in the Pisidia plain.
