Gulluk Transfer
Güllük is a charming coastal settlement located on the Milas-Bodrum highway, in a bay that embraces the bay of the same name (Güllük Bay; also known as Mandalya Bay), which can be reached from an 8 km turnoff from the Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) junction. Although it is a neighborhood of Milas district, it has the appearance of a town. It is a holiday region with a calm atmosphere that contrasts with the crowd of Bodrum.
The port of Güllük is very busy and developed, especially since it is the shipping point of the bauxite and feldspar reserves in the surrounding area. Apart from the port, fishing and tourism are important fields of activity and livelihoods. Good fish are found in the sea and in the sea, which is located in the north of the city, and most fish of all kinds are caught such as sea bream, sea bass, sargos, coral, bluefish, mullet, sole, horse mackerel, bonito, eel and many more. In addition, aquaculture is also carried out in most of the surrounding bays, and sea bream and sea bass are grown. From a touristic point of view, Güllük draws attention with its touristic facilities and summer houses on the hills rising just after the coastline.
The construction of the gulet boats unique to the region was first made in Güllük by Mehmet Uyav, son of Nami Captain. He was the one who trained the first masters who grew up in Bodrum and started to build wooden boats. He continues to be known as the master of masters. His son Ali Uyav also continued this profession. When he died at the age of 47, he left this profession to his son Mustafa Uyav and continued. Later, with the participation of his older brother Mehmet Uyav, the two brothers built boats of unprecedented size and beauty, until their paths diverged. The grandchildren of Nami, the son of Nami Kaptan, Mehmet, the Cretan, are still in the first rows on the gulets built in İçmeler, Gümbet, Ortakent, Yalıkavak and Tavşanburnu within the borders of Bodrum district.
